Miss District of Columbia
In 1921, the first Miss America, Margaret Gorman, was from
Washington, DC. Today, the Miss District of Columbia
Organization continues to provide young women in the
Nationís Capital with a vehicle to further their personal
and professional goals.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading
achievement programs and the world's largest provider of
scholarship assistance for young women. Rich in history and
social significance, the Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit
organization that has maintained a tradition for many
decades of empowering young women, while providing a forum
in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence.
The winner of the Miss DC Competition represents the
District of Columbia at the Miss America Pageant
